It was President Monson’s birthday!  Four more years!  Four more years! The Phoenix Temple finally has a new design.  It’s still 30 feet tall, but it also has…. A BASEMENT.  Huzzah!  Basements!  Either way, hopefully this will expedite the process of constructing it. Americans are not being very kind to Muslims wishing to build a cultural center close to Ground Zero in New York City.  We discuss many of the parallels between Muslims and Mormons, and how the LDS Church has faced similar periods of persecution and misunderstanding in the past. Searching YouTube for Mormon content is always interesting.  Allan takes us through his favs. Alex Hayley, author of Roots, gets a museum of sorts in his native Tennessee; and the Church has a FamilySearch center there! Follow me to glory: Allan Mount – Former assistant to the President, currently unemployed stay-at-home dad Follow Allan on Twitter Listen to the Sarcastic Gamer Brown podcast 83 years of Thomas S. Los Angeles Temple visitors center finally reopens after a massive, multi-year renovation.  We’ll do some on the ground reporting in the future. Al hates nature; or farms, or some form of Soviet-era collectivization.  We’re not really sure what he’s going on about, but having a ward or stake farm – you know, the type for all to use communally and enjoy (see: communism) – never ever work. Gary Lawrence, a prominent market researcher speaks at the FAIR Conference in Sandy.  He discusses his findings and recommendations about missionary work and the public relations efforts of the Church.  The man raises some very valid points.  After all, are people afraid to even interact with us because they are afraid that Mormon = crazy nutjob who is going to try and convert me? The Philadelphia Temple clears its final hurdles.  It’s a big one! 85,000 square feet or so; and right in the heart of Philly. …and more outstanding journalism from the Mormon Times. Seriously, if this hack McKay Coppins can get published, why the heck can’t we?  How about we write an article on variations of fry sauce and Jell-O and how that somehow reflects on the inner spirituality of members of the...

Episode #27 – Al’s Birthday Bonanza

http://media.blubrry.com/thisweekinmormons/p/thisweekinmormons.com/podcast/TWiM_EP27_Als_Birthday_Bonanza.mp3Podcast: Play in new window | Download (1.0MB) | EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | Email | Google Podcasts | RSSBlessed be Señor Al!  Le agradecemos sus esfuerzos durante todos estos años.  ¡Feliz cumpleaños, amigo mío! Or, since Al speaks the ol’ Ukraynskii –  Mnohaja Lita! And to celebrate Al’s birthday, we talk about gay marriage.  Yep, Prop 8 got overturned on appeal.  It’ll likely remain overturned on the next appeal.  And then, depending on who is still alive on the Supreme Court by the time the case is heard, it will still likely remain overturned on that appeal.  Yep, welcome to the new world order, friends. But how does this pertain to other hot button issues, like polygamy?  What’s to stop polygamists from marrying if gays are given the same right?  We discuss, and also wonder how on earth polygamist “marriages” are cracked down on by the law, when the state doesn’t recognize them in the first place (i.e. – Isn’t it really just one dude who has a harem?).  Playa!  We get into this discussion because TLC (not those of CrazySexyCool fame) now has a new reality show following a real polygamist family.  AWESOME. The Church is sued to give back tithing funds which came from embezzled money.  Not too controversial, since the Church doesn’t really want dirty money, but interesting, nontheless. And we talk about horrible...

Save Al’s Arm

Hey friends, As you may know, half of the TWiM team, Mr. Al, broke his arm last week and required surgery to fix his trashed radius.  That’s an inconvenience in and of itself, but even more so when one does not have health insurance. Please join us in supporting Al by donating just a few dollars to our “Save Al’s Arm” fund. Any amount is welcome, even just $1.  No one should have to be buried in a year’s salary worth of debt just to fix their arm, and while we wish we could do this for everyone who needs help, we can’t; but what we can do is help Al. So please, in all sincerity, donate something – anything- and tell your friends, associates, colleagues, and pets to help support a great cause.  Your donations are greatly appreciated, and all of your payment information is completely confidential and protected. Let’s fix Al and save his arm! Thanks,...
