You asked for bishop's perspectives…I'm currently serving as bishop and here are my thoughts…
First off…Name Badges in church is the cancer of ideas for any ward. It seems that every singles ward goes through this phase and all it means is the leadership has run out of fellowshipping ideas. I was an Elder's quorum president in my singles ward about 8 years ago and I remember when the bishop brought up that idea. I complied but I didn't like it.
Second…I wrote an article regarding exactly this principle. Many bishops/leaders feel they need their fingers in everything in order to run an effective ward/organization. The bishop needs to give more autonomy to their auxiliary leader and let them own it. There are some really crazy ideas the bishop may need to step in and say "NO WAY!" but for the most part let them run it how they see fit and you will get more out of your leaders because they don't constantly feel micromanaged by the bishop.
Yes! Great post. Now if we could only get that to be something people actually did as leaders we'd be rocking. Leadership is such a difficult thing to teach even in corporations where you have access to large funds for training and development. The way it feels in the bishops arena is either you are good at it and people love you, or you're not and it's only four years anyway. :/
